Sewing Expressions curriculum includes three youth activity books and one helper's guide. These activity books, written by university experts, help young people develop and share their creative abilities in the sewing and textiles area. Participants may work at the level most appropriate for them, no matter what the age. Written for grades 3-12.
The activity books include sections on creating (gaining experience in sewing), maintaining (caring for textile items), teching (technology applications in the apparel and textile industry), futuring (a sampling of potential careers), and serving (using their knowledge and skills to help others).
Book 1: Youth will learn more about fashion and their unique style as well as technology in sewing and careers in the textile industry.
Book 2: Fashion Forward will help youth develop their fashion sense and the skills needed to create a unique style of their own.
Book 3: Youth will learn more about fashion and their unique style as well as technology in sewing and careers in the textile industry.
The Helper's Guide provides additional learn-by-doing activities that can be adapted for families, classrooms, after school programs, ,or other youth groups. Helper's will find helpful hints about characteristics of youth, life skill development, teaching experientially, as well as group meeting ideas.
